This structure standing before you is the third temple to stand on our grounds.

The second temple built, pictured on the Walking Tour Sign was built after the devastating fire in April 1922. Here is a picture of the construction of the 1922 Temple.

We believe the first temple was built in the 1880s and was called the Pavillion. Here is a post card from the late 1800s.

This temple was advertised in the program as “having a seating capacity of 1100 people, good ventilation and comfortable chairs making this edifice one of the best.” In the photograph on the sign, you can see how the sides were designed to open for ventilation, much like the Auditorium in Lilydale. Lilydale is a Spiritualist Camp with summer programs near Niagara Falls in New York established in 1879.

And this is the very sad picture of the 1922 Temple’s collapse under a very heavy snow load in 1971.
